HNS Initiatives 2006-2007

The Holy Name Society is most grateful to Our Lord for the success of last year’s initiatives, and the members of the Society voted unanimously at their September meeting to sponsor a lecture series and evenings of recollection again this year.   Below is a partial listing of the initiatives for this year.  A complete list will be posted when finalized.

X     The Fr. Francis X. Weiser, S.J. Lecture Series will consist of four lectures with topics related to Catholic Spirituality and History.   The lectures will be given in Holy Trinity's Lower Church.  The lectures have been scheduled as follows:

      Sunday, October 29, 2006 - David P. Lang, Ph.D., author of the book, Why Matter Matters: Philosophical and Scriptural Reflections on the Sacraments, will speak on the topic “Can the Existence and Nature of the Sacraments be Proved from the Bible Alone?”  Dr. Lang holds Ph.D. degrees in both philosophy and mathematics - two subjects he has taught on the college level for many years.  He is the editor and a contributing author to the recently published book, Does the Bible Support Catholic Beliefs? - A Scriptural Defense of Catholic Doctrines.  Autographed copies of this book will be available after the lecture at the discounted price of $15.00.  This lecture is scheduled for 1:30 PM.  For more information, call (617) 426-6142.

      Sunday, December 17, 2006 - Brother Matthew, M.I.C.M., a religious from the Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Still River, MA, since 1976 will speak on the topic "Total Consecration in a Pagan World".  Brother Matthew is a contributor of numerous articles to his congregation's quarterly publication, "From the Housetops", and he is a lecturer in the adult education program at Saint Benedict Center, Still River.  The lecture will begin at 1:30 PM.  For more information, call (617) 426-6142.

X     Two Evenings of Recollection for the men of the parish will be held using the same format as last year:  lessons from scripture, hymn/psalm response, sermon, rosary, and benediction.  Each evening will be scheduled for a Saturday in Advent and Lent, respectively. 

Men's Advent Evening of Recollection

A Men's Advent Evening of Recollection is scheduled for Saturday evening, December 16, 2006 at 7:00 PM in the lower church.  The Evening of Recollection will be led by Father Thomas Naughton, Administrator of Holy Trinity Church.  The E/R will consist of Advent prayers and hymns, an Advent reflection delivered by Father Naughton, the recitation of the Holy Rosary, and Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament.  Light refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the E/R in the Cardinal Medeiros Center.

      Men's Lenten Evening of Recollection

A Men's Lenten Evening of Recollection is scheduled for Saturday evening, March 10, at 6:00 PM in the upper church.  The Evening of Recollection will be led by Father Thomas Naughton, Administrator of Holy Trinity Church.  The E/R will consist of Lenten prayers, hymns, and Psalms, a Lenten reflection delivered by Father Naughton, the recitation of the Holy Rosary, and Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament.  Light refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the E/R in the Cardinal Medeiros Center.
 

X     The Society has chosen to continue the practice of Extra Devotions after its membership meeting on Second Sundays according to the following schedule:

        September 10 – Litany of the Holy Name of Mary

   October 8 – Recitation of the Holy Rosary

   November 12 – Prayers for William and Dominic Davulis, all deceased members of the Society, and for the suffering souls in Purgatory

  December 10 - Prayer in Honor of the Immaculate Conception

   January 7 – Recitation of The Psalter of Jesus, Part I

  February 11 - Prayer in Honor of Our Lady of Lourdes

   March 11 – Prayer in Honor of the Passion of Our Savior

 April 15 - Chaplet of Divine Mercy

   May 6 – Rosary and Litany of Loreto

   June 10 – Litany of the Sacred Heart & Consecration to the Sacred Heart

   July 8 – Litany to the Precious Blood

   August 12 – Recitation of the Assumption Prayer


X    Events will be scheduled throughout the year to increase Fraternity among the Holy
       Name Society Members:
